What do I wear to practice?
Any swimsuit that is comfortable to swim in will do.
What do I need for practice?
Swimmers should have goggles, a swim cap, a towel, fins and a bottle of water or gatorade. Put your name on everything you bring to the pool.
What do parents do during practice?
Parents need to check family folders and read the bulletin boards at the pool. Otherwise, Socialize and get to know the other Piranha parents!
What if there is bad weather?
Pool rules state that no one can be in the pool for 30 minutes after thunder is heard or lightening is seen. You can check the website or look for an e-mail for information. Thunder and lightening mean no pool time, but if it's just raining...hey you're already wet!
What kind of fins should be purchased?
There is no recommended brand of fin, just make sure they are rubber.
What are the fins used for?
The fins are used to teach the swimmers form and to improve their leg strength.
Why are the fins trimmed?
The fins are usually too long as compared to the children's height/weight ratio. Trimming them helps make the tasks assigned easier, while still getting the benefits of using the fins.
How do we sign up for meets?
There will be meet sign up forms in the White Coaches Box or you can print a form off the web. On these forms you will be able to choose the events or have the coach choose the events for your swimmer. Sign up deadlines are posted on the Web and on the White Board by the family folders. Parents will also need to sign up to volunteer at the meet. These sign up sheets will be posted at the pool on the Piranha bullitin board.
What should we bring to the meets?
Chairs for the parents. Towels, blankets or sleeping bags for swimmers to sit on. Lots of water and healthy snacks. Cards, hand held games, board games since there will be down time between a swimmer's events. Sunscreen. There will be concession stands at all meets. Snacks, beverages, breakfast tacos and pizza are items commonly sold.
What if we signed up for a meet but can't make it?
Notify someone as early as possible. If you will not be at the pool before the meet, then email the Board Members at .
Must we come to the warm-up before the meet?
Absolutely. The swimmer needs to warm up and become familiar with the pool. A check in time will be posted for each meet. Swimmers arriving after the check in time may not be able to swim. An official heat sheet (the final listing of events each swimmer will enter) is handed in at about 7:15 A.M. Swimmers not checked in may be replaced or scratched from the meet.
When do swimmers receive their ribbons from the meet?
All ribbons will be in the family folders by Tuesday after the meet.
How are relays choosen?
The majority of the time, relays are created according to speed. Coaches determine this for each meet.
What is the Invitational All-Star Meet?
Our swim season will conclude with an invitational meet on July 9th. This meet is truly an invitational meet and is open only to those swimmers who equal or better the qualifying standards in a NWSC dual meet or in the divisional.
What does my kid need to do to be a Piranha?
Any child 4 or older able to swim 25 meters by any means (they may stop, but must continue to the other side)..
What if my child can swim but does not know all the strokes?
Part of our program is to introduce swimmers to the sport and help them become competent in all 4 strokes.
Do we have to attend all the meets?
We would love to have your child at each meet. Two meets are required plus the Divisional meet (our championship meet)..
What all needs to be purchased?
This year we have a package deal which includes swimsuit, swimcap, and t-shirt for $45 for girls and $35 for boys. The only other items are towel, goggles and swim fins (rubber not plastic).
Are practices mandatory?
While not mandatory,we understand that other activities may conflict.,practice makes better swimmer.
Can I change practice times so that all my kids can swim together?
Yes and no. For the first two weeks we ask that you stay to the schedule. After that please discuss with the Head Coach.
